Windy City LIVE

The historic Chicago theater across the street from the studio.

Last week I had the opportunity to visit the set for Windy City LIVE and also be in the audience for the show. Whether you are a resident of the City of Chicago or a tourist visiting YOU can also do the same thing! I have been in the audience for shows in the past but man has the game changed on how it all works! First of all is that its all done via an app that you download called 1iota. Weird name I know but my Aunt Linda told me about it when she was here in Chicago visiting family. She has used it to be in the audience for various shows in the Los Angeles area. To download the app just type the name 1iota in the app store and it should come up. Once you register you can see all the different cities and shows.

After you get a notification that you have a reserved ticket for the show you will arrive and wait in line until 11:30am when they start the process to get people checked in and through security. You are allowed to bring your camera and take as many photos as you would like. They actually encourage it for their social media. At 12:30 you are then led into the studio and seated by the shows staff. I ended up sitting in the front row but I will say that studio is pretty small and the audience can’t be more than 75 people.

The shows director I’m assuming then comes out and talks to you for a bit, he is trying to make the audience feel more comfortable and looking happy to be there. The hosts come out and read a short 15 second monologue to talk about whats coming up on the show. We were there for about an hour and a half total but they also asked at the end about us staying to film another segment for a show at a later date. They ask more in the hey … your sitting here and we are going to film this and your not really going to leave until we are done. I say that because I want you to know that you are on the show and production staff’s time. If you would like to know more about the process you can also check out their website here for more audience info. 1iota.com/show/388/Windy-City-LIVE

Chicago Cubs Game

Chicago Cubs Game 2016 Wrigley Field 01

When I booked my flight to Chicago the first thing I checked was to see if the Cubs were playing at home while I was there. They were and so I called one of my best friends who still lives there and we planned a whole day of it. When I used to live in Chicago and I was a very broke college student I would look online and find tickets for $2 and $4 and Chicago Cubs Game 2016 Wrigley Field 02go to the games after I got off work. I can say I have spent a lot of time at that park when the Cubs … for a lack of better words sucked. But I still went and cheered them on. Something about that park and that team has always made me feel at home. As you can see from the photo above the storm clouds were rolling in and 3 rain delays later we won the game and it was a day that I will never forget! This could be the year … I know we say that every year but there was an awesome feeling in the air! I am also a fan that rain or shine I will be sitting there with my beer in hand and happy to watch as long as they are playing! But as you can see the weather didn’t know what the heck it was trying to do and the sun was out enough to make my glasses transition into sunglasses. I’m happy I was able to see the Cubs win this year and who knows … I might be back in August when Scott and I have to make our cross country journey!

Puck You Tampa!

After driving 8 hours 1 way and spending over a thousand dollars to attend a game that no one wanted us at in the first place I am happy that the Blackhawks won. I am not happy that I didn’t get to see them do that. We got to town checked into our hotel and decided to go out to dinner somewhere around the arena. Once I spotted the first of many Blackhawks jerseys on the streets the knots in my stomach started to go away. I was really worried we were not going to have fun at the game and be able to enjoy the experience. We were yelled at a lot on the streets but we also met some really nice people. After dinner we entered the arena and found that in our section and row we were surrounded by Blackhawks fans. We were in seats 8 and 9 and seats 1-7 were filled with other Blackhawks fans who we became fast friends with.

We all had issues from the beginning with the fans that were behind us. The moment we sat down one specific fan said the he was going to be a dick all night long. They also had some noise makers that they were shaking right next to our heads just trying to annoy us before the game started. The fans behind us tried to get one of the Hawks fans ejected from the game before it even started. Things were going okay until we scored our first goal late in the 3rd period. After we scored the second goal was when things got crazy! All of the Hawks fans in the arena were standing up and celebrating the fact that we finally took the lead with 4:30 left in the 3rd. I had brought a rally towel from a previous playoff game that I had attended. I did turn around and yell to the guy behind me to ask what now? He started saying some extremely derogatory comments to me. I turned back around in my seat and that’s when I saw the police officer motioning for me to come to the aisle. I went out and before I could even say anything I was being told that I needed to leave the game immediately. No one warned me that me behavior needed to be calmed down. I had not been spoken to by anyone that was on staff for the Lightning. We asked if we could just watch the final minutes from the aisle. I was then told that if I did not leave now I would be arrested. I kept asking the police officer to speak with the usher on the other side so that he could tell him that all of us had been having issues with the same people all night long.

After knowing that this was not worth getting arrested over we did exit the arena and watched the final 30 seconds of the game from the Corona bar outside the arena. We also started talking to an employee of the arena and explained the situation. She said that I should not have been removed that quickly and that the situation was not handled correctly. She took our information and also gave me the name and number of her supervisor to contact. I called and left a message with the supervisor and I am still waiting for a call back.

We are happy to be home and I am going to watch Game 2 from my sofa where I can cheer as loud as I want!

LETS GO HAWKS!
