Seattle Mariners

Since moving to Washington I have been looking for a FUN job that I can work part-time along with still doing the PR-Marketing Consulting. I am not going to lie this job was not exactly what I was looking for but it sure has been a wonderful surprise. I was on the Mariners website looking at their schedule and hoping that they were going to play the Cubs this year so I could go to a game. I happened to see a banner that said they were hiring. I have tons of retail and merchandising experience from previous jobs. I decided to apply … why not… worst case I would just never hear back from them. To my surprise I got an email saying they wanted to set up an interview with me the following day. So once again I said why not … its not like I really have anything else I need to be doing. I took the first interview time they had and 3 days later I was headed to downtown Seattle to Safeco Field for my interview. It was awesome from the moment I walked in. They had us wait in the Suites office and then brought us up to the Ken Griffey Jr. room for our interview. It was one of the longest interviews I have ever had and it was in a group setting. Another first for me. The 3 managers left to obviously talk about us. They called some people out of the room and then came back in to tell us Welcome to Team! I was completely in shock and excited at the same time! After that it was a whirlwind of paperwork, drug tests, tours of the stadium and security photos. I started work the next week working on setting up the stores inside the stadium for Opening Day which was fast approaching. I had the opportunity to design one of the stores and show it to the buyers. They loved my ideas and couldn’t believe that this was my first week! Everyday I come home more excited for the next. This is the first job I have actually looked forward to going to work in the morning. Getting home at 11pm or later can get a little rough but its all worth it when I go to work the next day and meet new and exciting people. Sometimes I work in a store, sometimes I work in a kiosk but its always an adventure. I talk to people all day long and I ask how they are doing and they say “Good, How about you?” I say “I’m Delightful! How can I not? I am getting paid to be at an Major League Baseball game!”

The photo below was after I had worked everyday of the first home stand. I was proud that I was able to be there and survived. Its hard work but someone has to do it! The perks of the job are not bad either … as an organization the Mariners are awesome! And I don’t say this just because it’s my job. They really go out of their way to take care of their employees and give them special perks. When something like a hat or bobble-head is given away to the fans we have a chance to get that item too. We also get 4 free tickets a month to use ourselves or give away. They want everyone to use public transportation and they pay for my ORCA card. The ORCA card is what you can use all over this region for public transportation.

This is going to be a fun season! Let’s Go Mariners!

Olympic National Forest

007-olympic-national-park-forest-silverdale-bremerton-washington-stateScott and I were able to do a little exploring when he was home for a few days last month. We decided to drive across the bridge and go into the actual Olympic National Forest. If you ever get the chance it is a very pretty drive. We would have loved to stop at one of the tiny motels along the way and spend the night. If you are driving through and happen to see this sign I highly recommend you stop and take like little hike out to the falls!

Geiger Key Beach

Geiger Key Beach - Key West - Florida - TORsAdventures 01 One of the most common questions I get is “Where do the locals go?”. Funny you should ask … I go to the same places as you right? Well that is not the case for this tiny little beach that my husband and I found thanks to my Mom and her adventure skills. Geiger Key is at mile marker 8 and just north of Boca Chica. The island has a really good restaurant called Geiger Key Marina and Fish Camp. But the place that I am talking about is all the way at the end of a dead end road that if you didn’t know to keep going you wouldn’t but like most islands you have to hit the ocean eventually…. Right? I really like this place there are not many people around and when the tide is low you can walk out a pretty good distance. We Geiger Key Beach - Key West - Florida - TORsAdventures 04spotted lots of fish, hundreds of shells, crabs and even an adult size conch! So if you are just visiting for the week, new to town or planning a trip to Key West this beach is a great stop along the way.

One of my favorite things to do is just sit in the ocean! I know this may sound weird but yes sit! If I had a chair and my cooler next to me I would be in heaven! I could have stayed out there for hours … but as you can see in the above photo my husband is not the tannest person you will ever see and if he just looks at the sun he will get sun burnt!
