Cocktail Class at Isle Cook

Since I know absolutely NOTHING about making cocktails other than a Mimosa and a Screwdriver I decided to take a cocktail class at Isle Cook a local place here in Key West. They host quite a few different classes throughout the month. The most important thing that I learned was the method of 2-1-1. You always want to use 2 parts spirit, 1 part sweet and 1 part sour. With that method I am already leaps and bounds ahead of what I was previously mixing. This was also the first class that I have attended at Isle Cook. They have a very cool store with everything you could need for your kitchen or bar.

I also learned what a jigger was … who would have thought that is what you should be using to measure your spirits? I decided to buy one of those since it can’t hurt right? Well at least everything will be measured right! With all of that said I can’t wait to have a few friends over and see if I am any good at this measuring and mixing game.

Endless Summer Charters – Key West

I had the pleasure of going out with Captain Grif a few days ago from Endless Summer Charters. It was so much FUN I can’t wait to do it again. First we went to a fairly shallow spot to try and catch some sharks … Yes! I said SHARKS! Rebecca reeled one in and I was happy to be the official tour photographer. The 3 or 4 of them that were under the boat made me a little nervous.

Grif is a pro at getting the hook out of the sharks mouth. We then headed over to a spot called Boca Grande that had an old shipwreck sticking out of the water. Grif said he thinks it was a ship from WWII.

We changed up our bait a little bit and started fishing for some Jew fish aka Goliath Grouper … sadly all I caught were some tiny little guys that we couldn’t even eat for dinner. I think it was Rebecca’s fishing day since she also caught a Mutton Snapper that was at least 5 pounds. He came back with us for dinner and man was it fresh and yummy. I don’t think I have ever caught a fish, filleted it and then had it cooked within the same afternoon.

I can’t say that I am the most fond of fish. We have a few good stories but I prefer them on my plate already cut up and sometimes cooked. Something about the slime and them being alive. But none the less I love to eat them!

My Idaho Adventure – On the water

While on my Idaho adventure I spent a lot of time in the water. I think the most fun was floating down the river with a beer in my hand. We found this cute little natural beach a few miles up the river and spent quite a bit of time there. This is also where I spotted the bald eagle nest across the water. I couldn’t wait to get back to the house and pick up my longer telephoto lens. The photos are amazing!

But going back to the water … I loved this little spot that we found.

Scott and I did have a little fun while we were there. I was happy to see that I could get a photo of him smiling. Might be the only good ones I have! He doesn’t know how to smile for a photo!
