Walk in the Woods

washington-state-olympic-national-parkAfter moving to Washington my husband was deployed and I was left to explore by myself. I started searching the area around our house for green spots that could lead to a hiking trail or a park. I found a very awesome gem with a GREAT view of the Olympic National park. It was a short 1 mile hike all the way down to the beach and a slightly up hill 1 mile hike back up to the parking lot.

I have not done much hiking in my life … I guess that’s what happens when you live on a 2×4 island for almost 4 years. I am excited to explore my new home and get to see how the other half lives. It might not be all palm trees and sunshine up here but at least there is a good view. I also think I am going to be getting better at my photography skills.

All moved in!

me-and-scott-in-utahWell it was quite the adventure but we finally have our place in Washington. Tomorrow marks a month since we left Key West with our car packed up and ready to start our new life in Washington. 5 hours into our road trip my husband hydroplaned and we were left with a totaled car, half our stuff ruined and the worry that we were never going to make it to Washington. After spending half the day getting the car towed out of the water and hotel to sleep in that night I started tying to figure out our plans. We ended up renting a car and driving it Boise, ID. That was the first place my car could be dropped off since it was being shipped from Key West. We had an awesome 2 day stop in New Orleans and then drove all the way to Salt Lake City. It was a crazy 36 hours but since my husband and I are still alive and well it was worth it. I will also warn anyone driving in the middle of New Mexico and Idaho before the sun comes up to watch out for cops! I was pulled over not once but twice during our little trip. Both times I was given a warning but in my opinion it was a waste of time! I was only going 77mph in a 70mph zone! Just something else to add to the story we tell years later about how we survived everything that was thrown our direction and we are still here to talk about it.

This photo is one of my personal favorites from the trip. We were outside of Dallas just starting our longest leg of the trip and I was supposed to be sleeping but I couldn’t fall asleep so I started taking photos of the sun set. Man did they pay off! This was taken while driving 75mph on a random highway in Texas.

Before we continued onto Washington we had the opportunity to visit Scott’s family in Idaho again. It was supposed to be getting cold but we took advantage of this beautiful day and drove around the mountains with the top down!

Geiger Key Beach

Geiger Key Beach - Key West - Florida - TORsAdventures 01 One of the most common questions I get is “Where do the locals go?”. Funny you should ask … I go to the same places as you right? Well that is not the case for this tiny little beach that my husband and I found thanks to my Mom and her adventure skills. Geiger Key is at mile marker 8 and just north of Boca Chica. The island has a really good restaurant called Geiger Key Marina and Fish Camp. But the place that I am talking about is all the way at the end of a dead end road that if you didn’t know to keep going you wouldn’t but like most islands you have to hit the ocean eventually…. Right? I really like this place there are not many people around and when the tide is low you can walk out a pretty good distance. We Geiger Key Beach - Key West - Florida - TORsAdventures 04spotted lots of fish, hundreds of shells, crabs and even an adult size conch! So if you are just visiting for the week, new to town or planning a trip to Key West this beach is a great stop along the way.

One of my favorite things to do is just sit in the ocean! I know this may sound weird but yes sit! If I had a chair and my cooler next to me I would be in heaven! I could have stayed out there for hours … but as you can see in the above photo my husband is not the tannest person you will ever see and if he just looks at the sun he will get sun burnt!
