Welcome to Canada Eh?!?

Welcome to Canada Eh?!? Yep that’s right! Scott and I are in Canada for a week. He needed a vacation … I will never say no to that! We chose Canada since we live so close already! We took the ferry from Bremerton over to Seattle and drove north to Vancouver. We spent the night in a cute little town outside of Vancouver called Delta before we boarded the ferry to Vancouver island! It was raining …. surprise surprise here in the Pacific Northwest. We got up super early and  we were able to see the sunrise on the beach! That was pretty cool! And I’m talking temperature wise and on the awesome scale! After the ferry we drove to our little cabin in the woods. It is located in a small town outside of Victoria, BC called Sooke.

We will be here for 3 days and then moving to another cabin for the remainder of our trip. So far on our wildlife bingo card we have seen birds … and an OTTER! Yep I was WAY to excited and didn’t get the settings right on my camera to actually get a picture. Guess I will have to see another on right!

We did talk to a really nice local and she told us of a place called Potholes Park here in Sooke. She said she was up there a few weeks ago and she was able to see the local bear population feasting on the salmon run! We took a drive up there …. no bears …. but I did get some amazing photos of the Sooke river and the waterfalls in the park. According to the locals this is the off season and things have calmed down quite a bit here in their small little town. More to report soon!

Studio Update

I have been a photographer for about 15 years and I can finally say that I have a studio space that I am in LOVE with! My husband and I bought a house in our new town outside of Seattle, Washington and when I saw all that space downstairs I knew I needed to do something fun with it. The whole concept took a couple of months but I am finally excited to share my first photo of the studio space I have created. I have somehow pieced all these wonderful backdrops into a working studio. I spent quite a bit of time at the local thrift store or the Habitat for Humanity store looking for random items that I knew I could use in a creative way. Since my husband is active duty in the military I needed items that could be packed up and moved with us when we go to his next duty station. A few weeks ago I was looking at the flooring section and saw these beautiful pieces of wood. After closer inspection I discovered that they were not flooring at all! They were pine or cedar siding for a house! They had about 30 of these 6 foot tongue and groove boards. I asked to speak to a manager and was able to get them all for $50! What a steal right! I also found some never used cream colored doors that I knew would be a perfect neutral backdrop!

Jelly Belly Factory

On our drive home my friend Savannah was looking for some fun stuff that we could do on our way home to break up the drive a little bit. She found out that the Jelly Belly Factory was right off the highway and best of all it was free! I didn’t know you could even do something cool like touring the factory! They really have thought of everything! From the Jelly Belly car out front to the large jelly beans hanging from the ceiling. When we walked in there was about a 20 minute wait for the next tour. They gave us hats and told us a little bit about what to expect. The tour itself was self guided once you got into the factory. We were able to move at our own pace and take some time to read all the information. One of the cool things for me to watch was the amount of robots they had running. Everything from filling and removing trays to sorting the finished jelly beans.
